Unfortunately, the media loves a controversy so they will report about problems and issues first of all, and the feelgood stories always take a back seat. Nevertheless, the media's framing of these transit projects is provably wrong and sadly your framing also by extension. Infrastructure projects go over budget proportionally to their size. The bigger the project the larger the potential overage because there are just more things to go wrong. Highway projects go overbudget so often that it isn't even considered news and literally no one reports on it! That's because the fundamental perception of public transit projects that we were all taught was always that transit doesn't matter. And if transit is just a plaything for urban liberals then why waste money on it, right? Well, this is an outdated nonsense framing. Everyone and their mother is tired of traffic congestions. The vast majority of people would quit driving and set their car on fire if only they had access to good, clean, and fast transit that goes where they need to go. The times have changed, but the media framing remains the same old tired story. It's sad that you chose to follow the herd rather than blaze your own path!

It's fair to be concerned about costs, but why isn't there similar concern about costs of car road infrastructure. Tons of large complicated road infrastructure projects from tunnels to interchanges to bridges go over budget all the time and everyone just shrugs it off. Infrastructure of all kinds is complicated, but it's misleading and dishonest to act like road infrastructure magically doesn't go over budget.
